What are tags
Tags are a simple and easy way to categorize and organize tasks and goals in your own way. According to Wikipedia, "In information systems, a tag is a keyword or term assigned to a piece of information (such as an Internet bookmark, multimedia, database record, or computer file). This kind of metadata helps describe an item and allows it to be found again by browsing or searching. Tags are generally chosen informally and personally by the item's creator or by its viewer, depending on the system, although they may also be chosen from a controlled vocabulary".
Because tasks and goals can only have a single status, owner, (and board in the case of tasks), tags provide an additional dimension to search and identify themes and projects and track specific goals and tasks within waymaker.
Task and goal tags work in much the same way. The difference is task tags are for tasks, and goal tags are for goals. Goal and task tags cannot be used interchangeably between goals and tasks. This means if you create a tag for task you will not be able to filter goals by the same tag unless you create a goal tag with the same label.
How to tag a task
To add a tag to a task, click the task title to open the task editor.
In the input labeled tags, type the tag label you want to apply to the task and hit return.
The tag is added to the task. Repeat this process to add further tags if needed.
How to tag a goal
To add a tag to a goal, click to edit a goal. In the goal editor, in the input labeled tags, type the tag label you would like to apply to the goal and hit return to add the tag.
How to search for existing tags
To use an existing tag, for a goal or a task, start typing the task label into the tag input. When the tag you want appears, click it to add it to the task or goal.
How to remove tags
To remove a tag from a goal or task, simply click the x on the tag. This removes the tag from the goal or task. It does not delete the tag.
How to filter tasks by tags
Depending on what you are trying to achieve, there are 2 ways you might want to use the task tag filter.
If you need to filter all tasks on a single board by tags, then in the tasks module, open the board by clicking on it.
Open the task filter by clicking the filter button.
Under tag, start typing the tag you are looking for and when it appears, click on it. The board will then display only the task cards that have the tag you have searched for.
If you are trying to get an overview of tasks with the same tag across a team or organization, instead of opening a board, open the task list screen. Open the filter and set the criteria you need, including the tag, and the list will display tasks that meet your filter criteria, including tags.
How to filter goals by tags
You can filter goals by tags in roadmap, goals and dashboard modules.
In roadmap, to filter by tag, click the filter button, set your filter criteria, including tag, and the goal cards will be updated to display the goals that meet the criteria set.
