Learning Outcomes:
What is a milestone goal?
A needle shifter is an objective that has been prioritised as a top-level or key organisational objective. The decision on which objective should be a needle shifter comes from answering question 7 of the 7 questions.
"What 1, 2, or 3 things, if delivered in the next quarter or half, will shift the needle on the business?"
So after interpreting the data from the diagnostic, and asking and answering questions 1 to 6 of the 7 Questions, you should have a number of backlogged goals that are ready to be prioritised. Once the team has aligned on which goals will provide the most value if delivered in the next quarter, you'll need to make these goals the milestone goals.
The member of the team who has the Admin profile will need to navigate to the Plan or Prioritise page and click the edit goal button for the objective you need to update to a Needle Shifter.
How to set a goal as a milestone goal
In the following example we can see the objective "Develop customer centricity research to understand why our customers love our EVs." was upvoted 6 times to be prioritised as a milestone goal. And Customer Centricity was an activity from the Vision function that needed to be addressed, so lets make it a mIlestone goal for next quarter.
Click the edit goal button in line with the goal to access the goal editor.
Check the milestone goal checkbox and hit save
You now have a milestone goal. Time to communicate this to the broader team so they can get on tieing their goals to the milestone goals to ensure everybody is working on what matters most.
